Zanzibar, situated a few miles from the African mainland, was coveted by the great powers to being the gateway to Africa’s natural resources. The cultural traces that colonizers left throughout the history, were mixed, overlapped, but not excluded by each other. Zanzibar is a land of merchants and goods such as spices, which used to cost more than their weight in gold, or the Ivory, already disappeared. It is also notorious for being the last port of brutal slave trade towards Asia, Europe and Americas. But above all, Zanzibar is an island blessed by nature with a turquoise sea full of life, beaches with white sand, which looks like snow, and an inland covered of deep green.
Zanzíbar, a pocas millas del África continental, fue codiciada por las grandes potencias al tratarse de la puerta de entrada a las riquezas africanas. Las huellas culturales que los colonizadores fueron dejando se han ido sucediendo a lo largo de la historia, solapándose y mezclándose pero no excluyéndose. Zanzíbar es tierra de mercaderes y mercancías, como las especias, que llegaban a costar más que su peso en oro, o el desaparecido marfil. También es tristemente conocida por ser el último puerto del brutal comercio de esclavos que partía hacia Asia, Europa y América, Pero sobre todo, Zanzíbar es una isla bendecida por la naturaleza con un mar turquesa lleno de vida, unas playas de arena tan blanca que parece nieve y un interior cubierto de un verde intenso.
